Description

I will return to this target next winter to get more data -- I didn't get quite enough -- but it's not bad, so I'll post it anyway
The Jellyfish Nebula is actually a supernova remnant from an estimated 3,000-30,000 years ago (huge uncertainty!), and is located about 5,000 lightyears away in the constellation Gemini. It's in a rich molecular complex region, glowing at wavelengths across the spectrum, including the visible hydrogen and oxygen seen here, but also strongly in x-ray and radio. Within the nebula is neutron star CXOU J061705.3+222127, which is likely the remnant of the progenitor star (star that went supernova), that is speeding away at some 800,000 km/hr!
